Many people struggle from pay cheque to pay cheque yet spend a crazy amount of time watching tv, scrolling through social media, etc… What about taking a bit of that time and instead applying it to something that could generate more income? Below are some ideas on how to do just that!

Keep in mind that we may receive commissions when you click our links and make purchases. However, this does not impact our reviews and comparisons. We try our best to keep things fair and balanced, in order to help you make the best choice for you.

1. Sell items you no longer need on Facebook marketplace

When I was moving I had a bunch of things I no longer needed. I took some pictures of each item and placed them on the marketplace. Within 48 hrs I had sold every item and made about $500! Here’s a great post I found that details the best way to go about this from Ryan Dube of Make Use Of: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/selling-stuff-on-facebook-everything-you-need-to-know/

2. Become a secret shopper

While in college I made a bit of extra cash on the side being a secret shopper. It was a fun way to make some extra money. You can be a secret shopper for restaurants, drug stores, hotels, clothing stores, etc. Do a google search for secret shoppers in your area but be sure to research the company before committing to anything to make sure it is legit. A well known company that has been around for over 25 years is https://www.secretshopper.com/ . Check it out!

3. Take clothes you no longer wear to a second hand store

A friend of mine recently brought a garbage bag full of clothing to a second hand store and made $75 off of clothes she no longer wears. If you’re in a pinch and need a bit of cash quickly it’s a great way to make a few bucks all while decluttering! A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn it in 3 months you may just want to get rid of it.

4. Do online surveys

Though you certainly wont get rich from doing online surveys it can be a good way to earn extra money for date night. Many survey companies have a point system which has you earn money through gift cards.

5. Shop with Ebates

Ebates is a really great way to earn money back on your purchases. They even have amazon to earn back from which if you’re anything like me I spend WAY too much money on amazon. It’s a great way to earn some of your money back! Join now through the below link, spend $25 at any of their retailers and earn $10! Visit www.ebates.com to sign up and start earning cash back!

A couple of my favourite ebates stores:

  • Coach
  • Sephora
  • Michael Kors
  • Amazon
  • American Eagle
  • Walmart
  • Apple
  • Bath and Body Works

6. Have a garage sale

A garage sale is an awesome way to earn quick cash and get rid of things you no longer need. Ask around to see if your community has a community garage sale day and take part. Typically these have higher turnout rates and would be a great time to host your garage sale! There are also now apps that you can post to if you’re having a garage sale. www.glickin.com is a great app in Canada.

7. Do extra work in movies

Growing up I did a lot of extra work in movies which was a really fun way to fill up my piggy bank. Make a quick google search to find extra casting companies in your area. Submit your photo and follow them to stay up-to-date for when they’re looking for extras. It’s a super fun way to earn extra money and really easy. Not to mention you may even meet some celebrities! I was lucky enough to meet and be in a film with Patrick Swayze when I was younger!

8. Blog

Have something you’re passionate about? Are you a great cook? Love make-up and beauty? Follow all the latest celebrity gossip and shows? Start a blog about it! Blogging can be a really fun and rewarding way to earn some extra money and potentially even turn it into full-time income. I really liked how the website “Tried and True Mom Jobs” went through the details of how to accomplish this. You can find it here! https://triedandtruemomjobs.com/make-money-blogging/

 9. Sell handmade items at local makers markets

I love this one because it is also a great way to have a creative outlet! Many cities and towns have AMAZING local makers markets with vendors of all kinds. Whether you have a passion for pottery, gardening, knitting, jewellery there are MANY ways you can get creative and start selling at local markets.

10. Become a dog sitter!
